May 29, 2015 ~
"Couples Therapy: Beyond Talking on the Couch" Sweetser Training Institute
Friday, May 29, 2015
9 a.m. - 4 p.m., 6 hours CEUs
Sweetser, Saco, Maine
When a partner calls for a couple’s therapy appointment, a common request is, “Can you help us communicate better?” Attempts in couples therapy to teach active listening skills and “I statements,” while solving relational problems can easily escalate into arguments. Where does the clinician go next? How can you help move couples from conflict to contentment? Explore neuroscience, trauma theory, attachment theory, and family theory. Learn how integrating these sciences benefits conjoint therapy outcomes.
I’ll be presenting materials from Dan Siegel, MD, Stan Tatkin, PsyD, LMFT, Peter Levine, PhD, Laurel Parnell, PhD, Drs. John & Julie Gottman, and others. The workshop will include didactic and experiential information as well as exercises clinicians can take with them and use with their own clients.
